Dolphins Pick Up A Kicker & RB

DAVIE  (AP) — Place-kicker Caleb Sturgis of Florida has been chosen by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

Sturgis was the 166th overall selection, and the third Florida player taken Saturday by the Dolphins. They picked former Gators linebacker Jelani Jenkins in the fourth round, and running back Mike Gillislee in the fifth round.

Sturgis made 70 of 88 field-goal attempts in his career, including 24 of 33 from 40 yards and beyond. He'll challenge incumbent Dan Carpenter, who's scheduled to make $3 million in 2013.

Gillislee rushed for 1,152 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior last season. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry in his career and totaled 22 touchdowns.

He was the 164th overall selection Saturday.

The 208-pound Gillislee will compete for a roster spot after starter Reggie Bush departed to Detroit via free agency. Lamar Miller is expected to be Miami's starter this year.
