NFL Draft Season Is The Time Of Misinformation

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins haven't tipped their hand as to who they may select in the first round of the NFL Draft starting Thursday night. If you're looking for proof of this, consider the latest news from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, nearly half of the teams in the Top 12 of the NFL draft have inquired about trying to trade down in the first round. One of those five teams is allegedly the Miami Dolphins, according to Schefter.

A week or two ago, the Dolphins were by most reports considering using their numerous picks to try to trade up in the first round to acquire one of the top offensive tackles, Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher.

So in a span of roughly two weeks, the Dolphins wanted to trade up in the first round and now roughly 72 hours before the draft reportedly want to trade down in the first round.

The potential to trade down makes more sense for Miami if the team can finally complete a trade for Branden Albert. The trade would send a second-round pick to Kansas City in exchange for Albert, who would take over at left tackle for Miami.

Theoretically, Miami could then trade down a few spots and be in position to possibly draft a player like Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert while also possibly replacing the second round pick traded to the Chiefs for Albert.

However, finding a partner to trade down with is increasingly difficult this year. The top of the draft is not considered to be filled with elite players and if Schefter's report is accurate that five teams are trying to trade down, then if you are successful, the compensation may not be what it once was.

However, as the draft nears, all sides will be engaged in smoke screens and leaking information to try to get the player they want or deal they want to come to them. Whether that happens will determine what direction the first round takes on Thursday.
