Bomb Squad Detonates Suspicious Letter At Sweetwater Mailing Facility

SWEETWATER (CBS4) - The Miami-Dade Police Bomb Squad safely destroyed a suspicious envelope after discovering the words "President Barack Obama" and "Clinton" were found scrawled inside.

The envelope was discovered by a Customs and Border Protection agent at the Foreign Mailing Facility at 11698 NW 21st Street at 3 p.m. Thursday.

According to Sweetwater Police Det. Michelle Hammontree, the employee took the envelope to a grassy swale outside "in an abundance of caution", while CBP agents were evacuated from the facility and parking lot.

Sweetwater Police closed 117th Avenue from NW 25th to NW 15th Street  while the bomb squad arrived and exploded the envelope. It was then deemed safe and workers returned to the facility.

No one was injured. Police are investigating the incident.
