MIAMI (CBSMIAMI) – The Miami Marlins’ offensive woes continued throughout the weekend series with the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, the Marlins will take on a Washington Nationals team that shut the Fish out two of three games to start the regular season.

Over the past week, the Marlins have averaged just one run per game and have managed just two victories through the first two weeks of the season. Miami is currently tied with the San Diego Padres for the worst record in baseball and are nine games behind division leading Atlanta.

During the last week of games against the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, the Marlins managed to put together a team batting average of just .214 and in no game did the team hit higher than .228 as a team.

The Marlins are next to last in the Major Leagues in hitting at just .204 for the season. Only the Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting .203, is worse than the Marlins in batting average. The Marlins are dead last in slugging percentage and OPS.

Additionally, only two Marlins players have hit home runs, Greg Dobbs and Justin Ruggiano. Out of players who have played at least 7 games, only one player on the team, Placido Polanco, is hitting above .300 on the season. The next highest average is Donovan Solano at .250.

Even Marlins All-Star Giancarlo Stanton has seen his hitting fall off a cliff to start the season. Stanton is hitting just .167 on the season with five total hits on the season, of which just two were extra base hits.

Still, there is one player Marlins fans can get excited about, rookie pitcher Jose Fernandez. The first-year star has pitched in two games and while he has yet to win his first game, he has lowered his ERA to 0.82 across 11 innings pitched and scattered just 5 hits and struck out 13 batters in his starts.
