MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-area mayors and other community leaders joined together Saturday, calling on Congress to support gun violence prevention measures like the bipartisan legislation currently making its way through the Capitol.

The “We Have Not Forgotten and Demand Action” event features community leaders standing up for sensible solutions to gun violence, according to a news release. The event takes place Saturday at 7:15 p.m. near the Miami River, 444 SW 2nd Avenue.

Event organizers cite recent statistics which reveal 92% of Americans support common-sense anti-gun measures, such as background checks for all gun sales.

Organizers said Americans can “have it both ways”, meaning people can support the Second Amendment while still ensuring dangerous people are unable to purchase guns.
