Security Guard Shot In Miami Gardens Gated Community

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) - A security guard was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after a shootout with three men, a Miami Gardens Police Department spokesman said.

The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. at the Eagle's Landing Apartment complex along NW 27 Ave. and NW 191 Street near Sun Life Stadium.

According to investigators, three men approached the security guard and a confrontation ensued.

There was an exchange of gunfire and the guard was shot once in the side, police said.

He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

His condition remains unknown.

Police did not have any information about whether any of the three men who shot at the guard were also hurt.

There was no description immediately available and cops were actively searching for the men late Tuesday.

A helicopter with a spotlight shining bright on the community below was flying over the area at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, observed CBS 4's Lauren Pastrana.

The community is gated.

It's not known if the three men who approached the security guard live in the neighborhood or if they were just visiting.

A replacement security guard was brought in.

A phone number on the guard's vehicle traced back to Master Investigation Security in Miami Lakes.

Anyone with information should contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
