DAVIE (CBSMiami) – Drivers on the Florida Turnpike will experience delays and detours this weekend as they travel through the Davie area.

On Saturday, beginning at 6 a.m., crews will begin to demolish an old bridge which connects I-595 to the southbound lanes of the Turnpike.

During this operation, crews will remove the bridge that spans over northbound and southbound Florida’s Turnpike. No cars will be permitted to travel under the structure during this operation, from 6 a.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes during the demolition.

The following closures are necessary to complete this operation:

Northbound Florida’s Turnpike
Two lanes of northbound Florida’s Turnpike at the I-595 interchange will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6.

All lanes of northbound Florida’s Turnpike at the I-595 interchange will be closed from 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6 to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7. Motorists will be detoured to eastbound I-595 / SR 84 (exit 54) to northbound SR 7 / US 441 to westbound Sunrise Boulevard to continue to northbound Florida’s Turnpike.

Southbound Florida’s Turnpike
Two lanes of southbound Florida’s Turnpike at the I-595 interchange will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday, April 6 to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7.

Ramps
One lane of the ramp from I-595 to southbound Florida’s Turnpike will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday, April 6 to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7.

The I-595 Express Corridor Improvements Project consists of the reconstruction of the I-595 mainline from the I-75/Sawgrass Expressway interchange to the I-95 interchange. The project includes the reconstruction of the Florida’s Turnpike Interchange, the addition of auxiliary lanes on the I-595 mainline, the addition of braided ramps and bypass ramps between SR 84 and I-595, and a new reversible express lanes system in the I-595 median.
