Man Vanishes On Key Largo Sailing Trip

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) – A visitor from Iowa is missing after a boating trip in the upper Keys.

Mark Polaschek, 49, was in Key Largo with his wife and six year old son on vacation.

Last Friday Polaschek insisted on going out in their sailboat. His wife later told investigators she did not like to go with him on the water because she was afraid of his lack of boating skills.

When he didn't return that day, she reported him missing.

The Coast Guard and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission conducted a search and found the sailboat off the gulf side of Key Largo, near the Everglades. There was, however, no sign of Polaschek.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said there was no evidence on the boat to indicate what might have happened to him.
