Lauderhill Business Owner: Thieves Stole Expensive Refrigerated Trucks

LAUDERHILL (CBS4) - A South Florida business owner says he needs the public's help to catch a pair of cold-hearted thieves who stole two expensive refrigerated trucks from his business.

Greg Parker, the owner of Gelato Fino, says he has one truck remaining but he says the theft of his two bigger, more powerful trucks is a blow to his business.

Parker showed CBS 4 News the surveillance video from last Friday night. It shows one man fiddling around in one of the $80-thousand dollar trucks. Minutes later, a second man walked towards a second truck. The thieves drove off in one vehicle and surveillance video showed the men returning hours later to steal the other truck despite a bunch of anti-theft devices.

"It's a huge problem for us," said Parker.

Parker says he just recently redid the signage on the trucks and admits it's been difficult to fill orders for his 700 clients throughout South Florida and Southwest Florida.

But he said it hasn't had a chilling effect yet.

"We're scrambling," Parker said. "We're getting it done but we're scrambling."

Parker says GPS monitors tracked one of the trucks to Miami but by the time detectives arrived there was no sight of it. He says the other truck vanished.

Parker wants viewers to look closely at the way one of the thieves walks -- bow-legged with a slight limp.

"For me I'd be able to pick him out in a crowd in an instant," Parker said.

Parker tells us he and his 18 employees are pulling together to overcome the loss but admits it's a bitter pill to swallow.

"You have a small business you work incredibly hard to make it happen," he said. "It's just really tough when you get hit like this."

Parker says he does have insurance but he says it won't nearly cover the replacement cost. If you can help solve this case call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
