Scissor Lift Tips Over At Port Everglades, Killing 2

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two people are dead and a third is being treated for critical injuries after a scissor lift on the 1800 block of SE 18th Street in Fort Lauderdale tipped over on its side Friday morning.

Broward Sheriff's Office investigators identified the deceased as Kenneth Krason, 49, and Mark Freeman, 51.  Another person, Thomas Fischer, 49, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.

From Chopper 4, the scissor lift could be seen on its side with multiple fire-rescue workers surrounding the platform at the top of the lift. The high-reach platform collapsed at Berth 1, according to the Broward Sheriff's Department.

Officials haven't said what may have caused the lift to tip over. The three-person crew was doing routine maintenance on a passenger walkway.

All three of the people involved work for Broward County.

A truck that was seen near the lift did not have anything to do with the Friday morning accident, according to BSO.
