MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A grieving father whose wife and son were stabbed to death at their home says the suspect in this case is a “lunatic” who needs to be caught soon.

“I just hope they catch him as soon as possible and justice is served because he is a lunatic who needs to be taken off the street,” said Wade Jones.

Jones told CBS4’s Peter D’Oench that “I’m still in shock. I can’t even get my emotions wrapped around this. They were precious. This was just about all the immediate family that I have. I lost my son and my wife and I almost lost my two daughters.”

Miami-Dade Police say they are looking for 29-year-old Joseph Swift following the savage attack around 9 p.m. Sunday night at the Jones’s home at 2110 Northwest 131st Street.

Records show Swift has been arrested before for assault and police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The attack took the lives of 58-year-old Janeth Jones and 23-year-old  Wade Jones. Family members say they were stabbed to death outside the home.

Twenty-five-year-old Taree Jones and 30-year-old Natasha Jones were stabbed repeatedly inside the home.

Gershon Jones told CBS4’s Natalia Zea that Taree was stabbed while trying to protect Natasha and said Natasha may have been the target of this attack.

“He came towards my sister,” he said. “She closed the door and he kicked in the door and she was able to escape and run to the neighbor’s house and call police.”

They were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.  Wade Jones told D’Oench “They are getting better.”

He also said that Swift was his daughter Natasha’s boyfriend from four years ago.

“He’s got this rage inside of him and he came over to the house to take out everyone,” said Jones.

Natasha Jones’s two-year-old daughter was the only family member at the home who was not wounded.

Gerson Jones said, “She was in the car and luckily he didn’t know she was in the car and she was able to escape with no harm.”

The wounded daughters’ grandmother, who did not want to be identified, was on the phone with one of her granddaughters when the attack happened. Her granddaughter called out.

“And then I heard gunshots, pop, pop, pop. And she said grandma, call 911,” she said.

Despite that comment, Miami-Dade Police said there was just evidence that the victims had been stabbed.

Gerson Jones said his sisters were able to whisper to him but he has not told them that their mother and brother died.

“I didn’t tell them about the situation because I didn’t want them to lose their lives too,” said Gershon, as he fought back tears.

Family members said Wade was a nursing student at Nova Southeastern University and said Janeth Jones was a stay-at-home mother of five children and grandmother of four children.

“We need to find the man who did this him as soon as we can,”  said Wade Jones. “We have to. This is tragic.”

The mother of Joseph Swift told D’Oench that she was stunned to hear that police were looking for her son and said she was trying to reach him as well. She told D’Oench she thought police were looking for the wrong person.

Members of the Jones family said from the start that Swift was the one and only suspect.

Anyone with information Swift is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477) or (866) 471-8477.
