Hit & Run May Be Linked To Deadly Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man died Saturday after his car hit a tree near Kendall. Police say another driver involved in that crash may have hit a different vehicle prior to the fatal accident.

The deadly crash took place shortly after noon, near the intersection of SW 72nd Street and SW 134th Avenue.

"I heard a bang I heard the screeching, I heard another bang and then it hit the tree," said Mark Nagy who lives nearby.

Nagy said he rushed to help the man inside the car, but it was too late.

"He was dead as soon as he hit the tree," said Nagy, adding, "I ran around the other side of the car to see if anyone else was in the car maybe a kid in the backseat but there was nobody else but him."

A woman driving a blue Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Sunset at a high rate of speed, according to Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. The Jetta sideswiped a black Hyundai, causing it to spin out of control and hit a tree. Both drivers involved have yet to be identified, but police say the man who died was 27 years old.

Nagy said the driver of the Jetta appeared distraught.

"She was very nervous semi-hysterical on the phone trying to call someone, shaking a lot," Nagy said.

Police say the female driver may have hit a white or gray van in the area of 147th and Sunset Drive before the deadly crash. Police are asking anyone who was in that van to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
