BSO Report On Deadly Deputy Crash

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – The Broward Sheriff's Office has released the results of their investigation into a deadly crash last September involving one of their deputies.

Deputy Christopher Schaub was pursuing a vehicle on his department motorcycle when he struck a Mercedes Benz near the intersection of West McNab Road and North Andrews Avenue in Pompano Beach.

Schaub, a 22-year veteran of the sheriff's office, was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition where he died the following day.

The sheriff's department investigation ruled out malfunctioning traffic lights and excessive speed. The report said Schaub, who was focused on pursuit, did not see the Mercedes Benz coming towards him until it was too late, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Schaub was part of a law enforcement legacy. Schaub's father was an officer in New Jersey and Schaub's son, Tim, works for BSO. Deputy Schaub left behind a daughter and several siblings.
