WEST PARK (CBS4) –  The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that the body found a day earlier in a West Park alley is that of a 16 year old boy.

Francisco Santiago was found 7 a.m. Wednesday  in an alley just off Hallandale Beach Boulevard and SW 38th Avenue.

Investigators have not released the cause of death, but have classified it as a homicide.

“The dog alerted to the body,” said Keyla Concepcion, a spokesperson for BSO. “At first he thought it was a mannequin but then realized it was a man.”

The dog walker rushed to a nearby transmission business to call 911.

Steve Skopp who owns the business said he went to the alley and described the body as twisted and mangled.

“I can’t imagine what he did to deserve this,” said Skopp.

Surveillance from a nearby business showed a dark colored car pulling up to the alley about 4 in the morning.  Two men get out of the car and walked down the alley.

Seconds later the same surveillance captured the car turning west on Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

The alley is sandwiched between a row of shops on Hallandale Beach Blvd. and houses just west of Hallandale Blvd.

Thomas Sandoval, who lives on that block, said he didn’t hear any commotion; but the thought of a body behind his house is unnerving.

“I can’t believe it,” Sandoval said. “Nothing like this has happened here before.  It’s scary, my son is 14 years old.”

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
