FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The next phase of construction to rebuild a section of State Road A1A in Ft. Lauderdale is about to get underway.

Now that new pilings are in place from NE 14th Court to NE 18th Street, workers will begin installing steel sheets which will act as a seawall along the road.

The section of A1A under construction, just north of Sunrise Boulevard, was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy swells and seasonal high tides.

The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.

State employees hope to have it completed by March 1, at the beginning of turtle nesting season.
