Broward Grandmother Surprised With Home Makeover

NORTH LAUDERALE (CBS4) - A grandmother of four who lives in North Lauderdale received a home makeover just in time to warm her heart this Valentine's Day.

The Broward Sheriff's Office teamed up with the home improvement show, "Designing Spaces" to make it all possible. Neighbors 4 Neighbors referred Joy Stewart and her four grandchildren to Rebuilding Together Broward County, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans,  the elderly and low income families with home repair, because the family had been living in a home that was not in good condition.

Stewart's home has now been renovated and she was overcome with joy when volunteers took her through the front door for the first time since the remodeling project.

"It's awesome, I couldn't ask for any better," said Stewart.

The team of producers and volunteers at "Designing Spaces" said this was the single most challenging home improvement project they've had to tackle so far – an effort that meant so much to Stewart and the grandchildren she cares for.

"The kids are happy, so it makes me really happy," said Stewart.
