Families Homeless After Tampa Apartment Fire

TAMPA (CBSMiami) — Twenty-nine people had to be evacuated Sunday morning after a fire tore through an apartment complex in Tampa.

Flames were seen shooting from the Harbour Walk apartments in the Town 'n' Country area of Tampa on Saturday.

Heavy flames were already tearing through the upstairs and downstairs apartment units when Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived on scene, according to firefighters.

Additional firefighters were called to the scene to help and after 25 minutes the fire was fully extinguished.

Officials say the apartments are a total loss.

No one was injured, but more than two dozen families were left homeless and are now receiving help from the Red Cross.
