Canes Basketball Keeps Rolling In ACC

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – The Miami Hurricanes are giving the Miami Heat a run for their money on who the best basketball team in South Florida is in 2013.

The Canes, fresh off a thrilling win over the North Carolina State Wolfpack, will return home to the Bank United Center with an undefeated Atlantic Coast Conference record to battle the Boston College Eagles Tuesday night.

Miami finished off the Wolfpack with less than one second left in the game on Saturday when center Reggie Johnson tipped in a missed shot to give the Canes a 79-78 victory over NC State. The win pushed Miami's conference record in 2013 to 8-0.

More importantly, the victory for the Canes gave Miami a cushion of two games in the battle for the ACC regular season title. While Duke has the better overall record at 19-2, Miami's 17-3 record and recent throttling of Duke has sent the Canes skyrocketing in the rankings.

Miami was ranked 14th/15th in the rankings last week in the AP and Coaches' Poll. The Canes will likely crack the Top 10 after the victories over NC State and Virginia Tech last week.

The Hurricanes play Boston College Tuesday night followed by a home game against North Carolina this Saturday. After that, Miami plays at Florida State and Clemson which will take the Canes through mid-February.

The game Duke has circled on its calendar will be a rematch against the Canes on Saturday, March 2 at Cameron Indoor Arena in Durham.
