Elderly Man Tied Up & Robbed In SW Dade Home

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - The victim of a home invasion robbery in Southwest Miami-Dade was afraid for his safety hours after he was attacked Thursday night, he said.

The man, an 86-year-old veteran, did not want his name reported.

He said he was home alone Thursday when a tenant stopped by to drop of rent. The victim said he was owed $2,000 in cash.

When the tenant arrived, the man said no one locked the door behind him and two other guys soon barged in.

"They were trying to tie me up and I was fighting him," the elderly man said. "But the cellophane they were tying me with was sharp and it was cutting me."

Hours after the attack, some of his cuts were still bleeding.

"I thought they were going to kill us. I really did," the victim said.

The man said one of the robbers had what appeared to be a gun, but the victim believed it was fake.

Miami-Dade Police detectives are investigating.

Investigators asked the tenant some questions, but police have not said whether they think this was a set-up.

"He must have known it was there," the victim said of the cash that was removed from his tenant's pocket.

One woman stopped by to check in on the victim.

"I can hardly talk. I'm scared here, because he's a very good neighbor," the neighbor said. She did not want to be identified.

The victim said he's pretty tough and has family and friends that watch out for him.
