Boca Firefighters Win Life-Saving Competition

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) – The best firefighters in Florida, trained in life-saving protocols and skills, are in Boca Raton according to a statewide life-saving competition held in Daytona Beach.

Twenty-two teams from around the Sunshine State gathered for the 9th annual competition in basic and advanced life support skills.

The trio-team, Team B of Boca Raton Fire Rescue, took top honors in Friday's finals and was later named overall best performer after an emergency scenario.

The firefighters had to treat several patients, including one child in cardiac arrest, department spokesman Frank Correggio told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Team B took home the title after winning the advanced life support division.

"Training and competing allows teams to network, share ideas, training methods and equipment," Correggio told the paper.

The Sun-Sentinel contributed to this report.
