MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Drivers who take the Brickell Avenue Bridge in Miami had better find a new route because southbound lanes are closed for emergency repairs.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the locking mechanism of the southbound span of the Brickell Avenue Bridge was damaged during a test operation Tuesday morning.

Southbound traffic on the bridge is being re-routed to eastbound SE 4 Street. Drivers should proceed north on SE 3Avenue, west on SE/SW 2 Street, south on SW 2 Avenue, east on SW 8 Street to Brickell Avenue.

Drivers who normally use the southbound Brickell Avenue Bridge are urged to seek an alternate route until further notice.
