Southbound US1 Reopens After 3 Truck Crash In Florida City

FLORIDA CITY (CBSMiami) – After a seven hour cleanup, the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 at mile marker 120 heading into the Florida Keys has reopened in Florida City after a three vehicle crash.

The accident involved two dump trucks and a tractor trailer.

Traffic was diverted to Card Sound Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of one of the dump trucks spotted a pedestrian walking on the right shoulder of the road around 4:00 a.m. He applied his brakes which caused the dump truck, loaded with gravel, to overturn.

The second dump truck, also loaded with gravel, was traveling behind the first truck and couldn't stop in time. It slammed into the overturned dump truck and also overturned.

The third truck, the tractor trailer, was also unable to stop and hit the second overturned dump truck.

All three truck drivers were taken to Homestead Hospital.

The pedestrian was not hurt.
