Man Arrested For Alleged Lewd Act After Calling 911 For Help

POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A Deerfield Beach man who reportedly called police to report he was being chased by a man with a gun ended up in jail for alleged public indecency.

On Sunday, just after 6 p.m. Broward sheriff's deputies were sent to the 1900 block of NE 1st Avenue in Pompano Beach after a caller to 9-1-1 said he was being threatened by a man with a gun. When deputies arrived, at first they couldn't find the person who made the call. They then spotted 27-year old Joseph Wilson who emerged from the backyard of a home.

When asked what was going on, Wilson told the deputies "some guys was chasing me with a gun and he said he was going to shoot me," according to the complaint affidavit. When asked to describe the man or gun, Wilson said he couldn't.

When deputies started to find that parts of his story didn't add up, they told Wilson that he could be arrested if he lied to them during their investigation.

When asked again if he had been threatened by a man with a gun, Wilson told deputies that "No, no one had a gun" but "I thought he had a gun."

Wilson reportedly tried to explain.

"I was just in this guy's yard and he must have thought I was trespassing or something and he started to yell, so I just ran," Wilson said according to the deputy's report.

He was arrested for intentionally giving false information to a law enforcement officer and misuse of 9-1-1. When asked if he had ever been arrested before, Wilson reportedly told the deputies that he had for 'breaking and entering'.

Fearing that he may have been up to a similar crime when he called, the deputies went around the neighborhood to see if anyone had seen Wilson. According to the complaint affidavit, two juveniles said they saw a man who matched Wilson's description masturbating on the side of a home. They reportedly said when they went to approach him, he ran off.

The two juveniles were brought to the district office to positively identify Wilson.

Wilson has been charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition, misuse of 9-1-1 and knowing giving law enforcement false information.
