Family Asks For Help Finding Father's Killer

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A mother and her three children are begging for the public's help in finding the people responsible for gunning down Reynaldo Velazquez as he was working in his yard.

The shooting happened in October and Miami-Dade Police said he was murdered for his $500 gold chain. The crime happened just after 6:15 p.m. on October 19th at NW 22nd Avenue and NW 95th Terrace. Velasquez survived for ten days before he died.

"He meant everything," Jazmin Velazquez, 11, Reynaldo's daughter said. "Well, first of all I miss him. He used to help me ride my bicycle when I was little outside. Now I can't do that anymore.

"He taught us everything we know," said Reynaldo's son, Luis. "He taught us right from wrong."

Miami-Dade Police have been unable to make an arrest to this point, and that's why the family came forward Wednesday asking for the public's help.

"If anyone knows anything. Please help us. We miss our father," Luis said.

"I hope any person who knows anything…..will call detectives," Jazmin added.

Velasquez's widow Johanna said she is heartbroken.

"My husband was a family man that worked to keep his family and was a father," Johanna said. "His mother doesn't even know that he is dead. He is everything to us."

"He was a great father. We miss him a lot," Reynaldo, Jr. said. "They should come forward and think about what it would be like if this was your father. We can't go to sleep at night until whoever did this goes to jail."

Miami-Dade Police said the killers used a handgun in the shooting. If you know anything about the shooting, call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
