New Year Brings Newest South Florida Residents

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - The new year has arrived, and with it an annual tradition; the first babies born in South Florida since the date changed on the calendar.

In Broward Jessica Wilson, got her new years wish when she delivered her baby girl just 2 minutes after Midnight at Broward Health's Chris Evert Children's Hospital.

Hospital officials say both mom and baby are doing fine. The baby was delivered by Pauline Pheobalds, midwife at CECH. The baby girl weighed in at 7 lbs and 14 ounces.

In Miami-Dade county, Jackson South Community Hospital in Richmond Heights is claiming the first baby honor, delivered to a patient at 1:36 a.m. Tuesday. The name of the mom and information on the baby were not immediately available.
