MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake has been terrorizing quarterbacks and opposing offensive lines all season and he is being rewards for his play with a trip to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the 2013 Pro Bowl.
Wake was selected as a starting defensive end for the AFC Pro Bowl team. The AFC and NFC teams will play in the annual game on January 27, 2013.
“I want to congratulate Cam on his well-deserved honor,” said Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin. “I am sure he will represent the Miami Dolphins in a first class manor when he is in Hawaii.”
Wake’s journey has been well-documented. He was an undrafted free agent who tore through the Canadian Football League before joining the Dolphins. He made the Pro Bowl as a linebacker in 2010 after pulling down 14 sacks.
This year, Wake was switched to defensive end and is fourth in the NFL and third in the AFC with 15 sacks through 15 games. Wake yanked down 4.5 sacks against the Arizona Cardinals, which is the second most any player has recorded in a single-game this year.
“It’s really an honor, I couldn’t do it obviously without the guys around me,” explained Wake. “I think, when these individual honors come out, it shows what kind of guys you have around you.”
In four seasons with the Dolphins, Wake has racked up 43 sacks, which is the most for any player in their first four years with the franchise. He’s currently in seventh place on the Dolphins all-time sack list and is the third Fins defensive end named to multiple Pro Bowls.
“I didn’t even realize that, but I mean it’s one of the things that I guess for later on with the grand kids or whatever it may be down the line to say, ‘you know what, this is what I was,’ but I don’t even want to think about those things right now,” Wake said. “In 2006 I was sitting on the couch watching the games, so to go from there to here is really an amazing feeling.”
