Three Men Burn Man, Leaving Him With "No Skin Left"

MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Bridget Brackett said that her son, Darryl, was with his girlfriend last night when they ran out of gas.

Darryl took a gas can to the gas station, but never made it back to his car.

Two-and-a-half hours later, his girlfriend found out the 44-year-old was recovering at Ryder Trauma Center's burn unit, located inside Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Bridget's son told the woman that found him that three men set her son on fire.

"This is my only son…and it's hard for me to see him like this," Darryl's mom said, weeping.

It's easy to see why: the photo of Darryl's body--75 percent of which is burned--is too gruesome for this website.

"He has no skin left," Bridget said. "Coloration's gone from his face," Darryl's cousin Sharetta Remikie added.

Outside JMH, tearful family members hugged one another as they struggled to grapple with the critical injuries dealt to Darryl.

Bridget remains hopeful for her son.

"God is a miracle worker," she said.

As for the hunt for Darryl's attackers, it's difficult: Darryl is sedated and police have little information to work with.

"There's somebody out there that saw what happened," Darryl's mom said.

She encourages that person to call so that justice prevails over the anti-snitch culture.

"You're not gonna be a snitch…you're helping a family," she pleaded.

If you have any information on this case, please call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
