Last Minute Shoppers Pack Malls

MIAMI (CBS4) - If you thought Black Friday shopping was crowded, Super Saturday was even more hectic. The Saturday before Christmas is generally the busiest shopping day of the year.

According to the National Retail Federation, 73 percent of shoppers still have to finish their Christmas shopping. At the Dadeland Mall, the parking lots were packed and so were the stores.

"It's pretty intense," said Jorge Carrasca, an admitted procrastinator. "I always end up doing it last minute."

Dadeland stayed open until midnight for the late-night shoppers and Macy's stayed open all night long. Kristal Berdugo, who brought her son for a picture with Santa, said she still had a lot of shopping to finish up, but she hoped to get it done by midnight.

"I don't want to come back tomorrow," she said.

In South Miami, shoppers bundled up to browse through The Shops at Sunset Place. Many said they came here because other malls were too crowded. Melinda Goncalves says waiting until the last minute paid off with "excellent deals very good discounts."

"Today is the list of the forgotten gifts... the "Oh my God I forgot this person' so we're here today to resolve that," explained Octavio Matamoros.

Matamoros said his family planned to be finished shopping this weekend, but according to the National Retail Federation 10 percent of shoppers will still be shopping Christmas Eve.
