SOUTHWEST RANCHES (CBSMiami) – The reward for information in the case of a slaughtered horse in Southwest Ranches is going up.

Broward County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and an additional reward of up to $1,000 is being offered by an anonymous donor.

According to police, the former racehorse was stolen from a barn in Southwest Ranches between Aug. 17 and Aug. 18.

The horse, named Marco, was later found slaughtered in the 5100 block of SW 210th Terrace in Southwest Ranches.

Marco’s owner said the thieves removed some wooden planks that enclosed his pen, led Marco along a dirt path behind their property then killed the horse and butchered him for his meat.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
