Marlins Park To Host World Music Awards December 20

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins may not be able to sell many tickets to baseball games, but the franchise is hoping the latest event coming to Marlins Park will be a sell-out.

The Marlins announced Tuesday that the World Music Awards will be held at the stadium on December 20. The Marlins said the program will be aired to 180 countries around the world and reach more than a billion viewers.

The awards show will reportedly have music fans' "favorite artists performing live." However, no major bands/acts have been booked in Miami for that day, according to Pollstar.com.

The awards will be presented on sales numbers and by a public vote on the Internet. Tickets for the events range from $25 for the upper deck to $325 for VIP areas near the stage on the field at Marlins Park.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.

In a statement, the Marlins said the World Music Awards would be helping victims of Hurricane Sandy, specifically Haiti, which has been ravaged by natural disasters in recent years.
