Davie Team First To Unravel Mystery Of Herald Hunt

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A talented team of amateur sleuths from Davie were the first crack the brain twisting puzzles of the 20th annual Herald Hunt on Saturday.

"We're psyched,'' Jamie Cole told CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

Cole, his wife Debbie, daughter Julie, 17, and longtime Hunt partners Peter and Caren Berg comprised the team "Fiscal Cliff Hangers."

Using green as a common theme, they were able to turn a set of phrases into a phone number, which when called, led to more clues.

The final clue, once solved, instructed the team to hand their phone number to a woman playing catch on a baseball diamond in Peacock Park in Coconut Grove.

The Cliff Hangers completed the puzzle about 15 minutes before the final clue was offered to all contestants at 3 p.m., and a good half hour before the second-place winners, a team calling themselves "2008 Champions'' because they won the Hunt that year.

For their efforts, the Cliff Hangers won four state rooms on Carnival's newest ship, the Breeze.
