Report: FAU To Join Conference USA

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) – The game of musical chairs in college sports conference realignment may have finally snagged another South Florida school.

According to ESPN's Brett McMurphy, Florida Atlantic University will leave the Sun Belt Conference for Conference USA. McMurphy also said Middle Tennessee State University will be joining FAU in the move to Conference USA.

Officially, FAU's athletic department said any potential move is hypothetical right now, but they are monitoring the constantly changing college athletics landscape.

FAU's potential move to Conference USA comes nearly eight months after the conference invited Florida International University to join. Conference USA has been trying to stay relevant as the Big East has continually raided it during the realignment circus.

The Big East has poached the University of Central Florida, the University of Memphis, Tulane University, University of Houston, and Southern Methodist University along with East Carolina in football from Conference USA.

The potential move of FAU comes the same day Louisville left the Big East Conference for the Atlantic Coast Conference.
