Kids Find "Christmas" Surprise In Central Florida

CHRISTMAS (CBSMiami/AP) – A couple of children found quite a "Christmas" surprise while playing Saturday afternoon.

A hand grenade.

The Orange County Sheriffs Office said the kids were playing in a field in the rural town of Christmas, east of Orlando, when they found the grenade. One of the children told a parent, who called deputies.

The grenade appeared to be at least 30 years old. The sheriff's department bomb squad blew it up and then found the second. They detonated it, too.

Deputies plan to inform the Army Corps of Engineers to find out whether the field was once used for military training and might have other grenades. Deputies said it is also possible someone buried the grenades there years ago to dispose of them.
