Aide Accused Of Stealing Jewelry From Elderly Client

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A woman who worked as a home health care aide for an elderly Pompano Beach woman was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from her.

Guirlande Philistin, 47, has been charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property and exploitation of the elderly.

The thefts reportedly occurred between April and August of 2012. Philistin sold the jewelry at the H & R Pawn shop at 11320 Wiles Road twice in April and twice in July, according to her arrest report. She received a total of about $600 for the stolen goods.

Philistin at first denied she stole the jewelry or tried to pawn it when question by Broward Sheriff's investigators. After she was read her Miranda rights, she reportedly admitted to pawning the goods but said she was given the jewelry as gifts.

The woman from who the jewelry was taken denied giving them to Philistin as gifts.
