Report: NHL May Cancel Games Through Dec. 15 Soon

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Florida Panthers fans may need to start looking for a new team to support because the NHL may be put on ice through mid-December shortly.

According to the Sports Business Journal, if a new collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players Association isn't reached in the next week, all NHL games through December 15 will be canceled.

In addition, according to the Journal, a future date may also be set as a threat to cancel the entire season.

A deal seemed to be possibly in reach last week during extended talks, but things broke down over contract rights, according to NBCSports.com.

The NHL has kept its players locked out since before the season was supposed to start. Neither side have budged much and a thawing of relations doesn't seem to be in the cards anytime soon. Still, it only takes a few hours to put together a deal once some issues are settled.

The NHL has become the poster child for labor discord in professional sports. The team has lost an entire season in the past and has lost more than 1,700 games since the early 1990's due to work stoppages.
