Broward County Fair Kicks Off Thursday

PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4) – Celebrating its 37th year, the Broward County Fair kicks off Thursday in Pembroke Pines with rides, games, food and entertainment.

The fair will open at 4 p.m. at the City Center site (next to the Pembroke Pines City Hall) on Pines Boulevard just east of the Pembroke Lakes Mall.

In celebration of their long-standing tradition of bringing educational, cultural and unique experiences to South Florida, in 2012 the Fair is offering a number of new attractions including new wild animal exhibits from around the globe.

The Exotic Bengal Tiger Experience is an inspirational and educational program. The tigers help educate the public on the loss of their habitat and endangerment issues in India and Asia. These tigers are cared for and protected by loving trainers, whose goal it is to inform the public about these exotic animals.

Also new this year is the only traveling Australian Animal Show in the United States. Fair guests will learn many interesting facts about the different species of kangaroos and wallabies, along with native Australian birds such as the kookaburra and rainbow lorikeets.

Speaking of animals, more than 100 farm animals born and raised in Broward will be judged in various agriculture contests, including 4-H competitions.  There will also hold more than 30 student contests including Art & Science Contests, Creative Writing, Spelling Bee, Cheerleading and Talent Competitions.

And let's not forget the rides and food. The midway, by Dreamland Amusements and Wade Shows, will illuminate the sky with 100s of rides, games and food vendors.

Reduced ticket admissions are available online at browardfair.com. There are online discounted tickets for admission, unlimited ride wristbands, and even family 4-pack specials. Individual tickets at the gate are $10 per person.

The Broward County Fair will also offer discounted promotional nights, like the Car Load Night promotion on opening day, where everyone in their vehicle, car, van, limo or bus receives admission and unlimited free rides for $50.00 per vehicle.  Want to get it cheaper, purchase a Car Load Night pass online for $40.00.

The Fair runs through November 25th.
