LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – A Ft. Lauderdale man died Saturday evening after he was struck by a van as he attempted to cross a street.

Ft. Lauderdale police said Donald Evans, 58, was behind the wheel of his 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 van heading  north in the center lane of W 31st Avenue just before 7 p.m. when he changed lanes around 13th Street.

As Evans moved to the right, he couldn’t stop in time and struck 59-year old Lawrence Weir who had just started to cross the street.

Evans immediately stopped and waited for police. Weir was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died.
