CBS4 Viewer Leads U.S. Marshals To Wanted Fugitive

MIAMI (CBS4) – Thanks to a scorned lover, and CBS4 viewer, a fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshals was captured in a Miramar neighborhood Friday night.

Jean Evra was taken into custody at an apartment complex off of 57th Avenue  just after 8 p.m. after a tip was given to investigators.

"Mr. Evra was concealing his identity with a fedora hat and sunglasses. The tipster who provided the information will be eligible to receive a cash reward," said Acting Task Force Supervisor Sean Sandler. "We are very happy that someone saw this story on CBS4 and came forward with the information."

Evra told CBS4's Brian Andrews he is not a criminal and that he didn't realize he was wanted on charges connected to drunk driving.

Authorities say it's not the drunk driving charge he is wanted on, it is Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer. They say those charges stem from an incident where he attempted to headbutt a female officer while being arrested for drunk driving.

Evra also has other charges against him for which he has failed to appear in court.

April R., who recently moved to South Florida from Maryland, said Evra is a Casanova.

April claimed he passed himself off as a well-to-do-doctor and even convinced her to buy a Mercedes Benz, offering to make the payments.

"He was like, 'You're going to upgrade your car anyway.  Let's get a Mercedes.  I'm going to pay for it'," she said.

When he was arrested Friday night, Evra had been travelling in a black Porsche registered to his ex-wife. It is unclear where the black Mercedes belonging to April is located.

"I'm embarrassed I even know this man," she said.  "I bought his story, I came here single and ready to mingle, and got into this crazy situation like a nightmare I wish I could forget."
