Closed I-595 Ramp At University Drive To Re-Open Wednesday

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – More than three and a half months after it was shutdown for a major construction project, the Florida Department of Transportation will re-open the ramp from southbound University Drive to eastbound I-595 on Wednesday.

The fly over ramp was closed to traffic on July 15th so crews could raise the bridge 18 inches, remove the southern 250 feet of the bridge and then rebuild the southern end of the bridge in its new location. The new flyover touches down on eastbound SR 84 before passing under the new off-ramp to Davie Road.

The construction was part of the I-595 Express Corridor Improvement Project which began in February 2010.

The nearly two billion dollar project, which includes reconstruction of the Turnpike Interchange and new reverse toll lanes, is expected to be done by early 2014. When complete the new I-595 will accommodate up to 300,000 cars a day. Right now, approximately 180,000 drivers use I-595 on a daily basis.
