DORAL (CBSMiami) – South Floridians know all too well how difficult it is to recover from a devastating hurricane. That’s why CBS4 is proud to announce it has joined with the American Red Cross and CBS Outdoors to raise funds for victims of Superstorm Sandy.

On Thursday, November 8th, WFOR/CBS4 will host a phone bank during the 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. newscast which will give viewers an opportunity to phone in and pledge their donations to support relief efforts for the residents of New York, New Jersey and the other areas of the Northeast that were impacted by the storm.

The phone bank will be staffed by CBS4 air talent and representatives from local partners. Leading the effort will be the members of the CBS4 Morning Team – Rhiannon Ally, Josh Benson, Lissette Gonzales and Vanessa Borge.

Viewers can make pledges by phoning (305) 597-4404. All funds will go directly to the American Red Cross for storm relief.

“Those of us who live here in South Florida can certainly identify with the physical and emotional fallout from the impact of this storm,” said WFOR Vice President/General Manager Adam Levy. “We know the devastating impact that these storms can leave behind because many of us have experienced the effects of hurricanes firsthand. Many South Florida residents came here from the North East and still have family there who are now suffering as the result of the widespread destruction that Sandy caused. It is essential that South Florida responds to this crisis.”

CBS4’s parent company, CBS Corporation, announced last week that it has contributed $1 million to the American Red Cross.  In addition, CBS Corporation will match any contributions made by its employees to any Sandy related relief effort, by making an additional contribution to the American Red Cross.
