MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake is instantly recognized by opposing coaches, quarterbacks, and offensive linemen. Thursday, wake was recognized by the NFL as the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October.
Wake had nine tackles and three sacks in the Dolphins’ three games in October. His three sacks were tied for the most in the AFC in October and his play helped lead the Dolphins to an undefeated record in October.
For the season, Wake has 7.5 sacks, of which 4.5 came against the Arizona Cardinals in a loss on September 30. Wake has pulled down 35.5 sacks in his first four seasons with the Dolphins, which is the most by any player in their first four years in franchise history.
The award is the first player of the month award in Wake’s career and he’s the first Dolphin to pull off the feat since Joey Porter in October 2008.
The Dolphins have Wake under a long-term contract and he’s expected to be a key cog in the Dolphins improved defense for years to come.
