State Cancels New Education Website Contract

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – A new website to help students, parents and teachers master new academic standards being put into place is not happening at the moment.

The state's Department of Education has terminated its contract with Infinity Software Development, a Tallahassee technology company hired to build and implement the site. Just last week, the company filed its own suit against the state claiming the agency had violated their contract.

State education officials maintain Infinity Software Development fell significantly behind designing and building the website. The agency also asserts the company did not turn in acceptable lessons and tests in areas such as math, civics and biology.

One example cited by education officials is Infinity employees used the phrase "pursuit of happiness" to discuss the preamble to the U.S. Constitution even though the words actually appear in the Declaration of Independence.
