Gov. Scott Cancels Events To Visit Seriously Ill Mother

TALLAHASSEE (AP) – Gov. Rick Scott canceled all of his events for Thursday so he could be with his mother who is seriously ill.

Esther Scott, who splits her time between Florida and Kansas City, Missouri, is is battling an infection and is intensive care, according to Scott. On Twitter Thursday morning he asked Floridians to keep her in their prayers.

“Please pray for my mother, Esther. She is in the ICU fighting an infection. This has been a tough year for our family. Ann lost her father in January and her mother in September.”

Esther Scott was a mainstay on the 2010 campaign trail and was featured in a television ad where she told Florida voters that her son was a good boy.

A spokeswoman for Scott says the governor also is canceling events planned for Friday and Saturday. Those events include an afternoon press conference in Tampa as well as a phone meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
