DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami) – Fresh off the heels of what many pundits say was a victorious debate performance, President Barack Obama made a campaign stop in Delray Beach before heading back to the swing state of Ohio later in the day.
President Obama and his Republican challenger squared off Monday night in the third and final presidential debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton. The debate focused on foreign policy, which typically benefits the commander-in-chief.
By Tuesday, Obama was focusing on a point he made during the third debate that Governor Romney’s shifting positions on key issues makes him untrustworthy to be the president of the United States.
Obama said Tuesday that voters, “can trust that I say what I mean,” during his stop in Delray Beach.
Among the notable attendees at Monday’s debate and Tuesday’s rally in Delray Beach was former Florida Governor Charlie Crist. The former governor is expected to complete a party switch soon and possibly re-enter Florida politics as a Democrat.
“Two weeks from today, Americans in all 50 states will step into the voting booth, but here in Florida, you get to start voting on Saturday,” Obama told the crowd in Delray Beach. “I need you to vote because you’ve got a very big choice to make. It’s a choice between two very different visions for the future of this country that we love.”
Obama also took the time to take shots at Romney during the gathering, specifically bringing up a term he coined in a recent speech, “Romnesia” referring to Romney’s perceived constantly changing positions.
“We had a severe outbreak last night,” Obama said. “It was at least stage 3 Romnesia. I just want to go over with you some of the symptoms. I want to make sure nobody in the surrounding area catches it.”
Obama continued channeling his inner comedian Jeff Foxworthy, “If you say you love American cars during a debate, but you wrote an article titled ‘Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,’ you might have Romnesia. If you talk about how much you love teachers during a debate, but said just a few weeks ago that we shouldn’t hire anymore because they won’t grow the economy, what do you have?” The crowd responded, “ROMNESIA!”
Obama added, “There is a theme here, he keeps on loving stuff and then wants to end it or cut it or not help it.”
The president took Romney to task for what he didn’t say during his convention speech, where the Republican challenger didn’t mention the troops or Afghanistan, and for not mentioning veterans at all during the third debate.
“Governor Romney didn’t even mention our veterans last night,” Obama said to a chorus of boos. “Don’t boo, vote!”
Obama left Florida and was headed back to Ohio for a rally with Vice-President Joe Biden later in the day Tuesday. Obama will be back in Florida on Thursday for a rally in Tampa.
