Competition Has Broward Students Stand Up Against Bullying

BROWARD (CBSMiami) — Broward County students are taking a stand against bullying.

Teams of students from various schools created a one-minute public service announcement (PSA). As the basis for the PSAs, students used one of Psychotherapist Gay Lynn Williamson-Grigas' tools from her guide, Trigger-Proof Your Way To Success: 12 Tools To Keep Your Cool and Confidence.

For the past two weeks, the public voted for their favorite student PSAs by 'liking' them on YouTube. The winning PSAs will be announced Saturday evening following the premiere of a behind-the-scenes film featuring the students making the PSAs.

The anti-bullying campaign, approved for use in the county's schools, was organized by The Empowerment Center Corporation (TECC), a 501(c) (3) that delivers training for elementary, middle and high school students.

According to a news release, Grigas' book trains students how to recognize their emotional triggers and manage their reactions from the inside.

CBS4's Neighbors 4 Neighbors, celebrating 20 years of helping those in need, is one of several groups sponsoring the anti-bullying campaign.
