CBS4 Talks To The Stars Of "Here Comes The Boom"

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – In the new comedy "Here Comes The Boom," Kevin James plays Scott Voss, a former collegiate wrestler turned apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher, Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter.

"It's a great movie for everybody to go to," said James. "There are intense fight scenes. The message is the important thing. That's what they're going to take away. You will get inspired by it.:

Kevin James, who is no stranger to comedy, found the role of playing a martial arts fighter, a bit out of his comfort zone. And the training really kicked his butt.

"The training was intense. It went on for 14 months where I changed my diet. I was working out 2 to 3 times a day. I was working with trainers and kicking and sparring. It was a lot," he explained.

In the film, everyone thinks Scott is crazy - most of all the school nurse, Bella, played by Salma Hayek. But in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school.

"He's the nicest guy you could possibly meet. He's a role model, a super father, husband, very catholic and kind and very generous and at the same time he's fun," said Salma Hayek.

Kevin had a good time working with Salma.

"I enjoy working with Salma. She's a great actress, she's smart, funny, word out is she is beautiful," joked Kevin.

Salma Hayek is married to Francois-Henri Pinault, the CEO of a company whose labels include Gucci Louis Vuitton and more so CBS4's Lisa Petrillo couldn't help but ask what she thinks of South Florida fashion.

"I think Miami style is coming back. You will see there will be a lot of great colors, a 70s vibe is coming back. It's gonna be very trendy in Miami," said Hayek.

Here Comes The Boom opens nationwide Friday, Oct. 12th.

It's rated PG.
