Traffic Snarled For Hours After Fiery Crash On I-95

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - Traffic was backed up for hours on Interstate 95 Thursday afternoon after a Hummer and a motorcycle collided, sending the motorcyclist to the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol said both vehicles were travelling northbound on I-95 at around 4 p.m. when the Hummer clipped the back of the motorcycle while attempting to change lanes.

The motorcyclist, Daniel McLaughlin, 45, was thrown from his bike and onto the pavement. His motorcycle veered into a concrete barrier and burst into flames.

The impact of the crash also caused the Hummer to flip over.

The driver of the Hummer, Ryan LaMarca, 21, was able to escape the accident without injury. McLaughlin was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. Troopers say he was wearing a helmet.

All of the northbound lanes of I-95 were shut down while investigators worked on the scene. They reopened shortly after 7 p.m.
