West: U.S An "Angel Of Death" If Attacked

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Controversial Republican Congressman Allen West said he would tell the United Nations that the U.S. is an "Angel of Death in the form of an American Bald Eagle that will visit you and wreak havoc and destruction" on any person or country who attacked the U.S., according to Politico.

Congressman West continued to espouse a common refrain from the GOP on the campaign trail that President Barack Obama apologizes to other countries instead of defending the country. He also was critical of the U.S. for linking the violent attacks overseas to an anti-Islamic movie.

"There is no message to this silly video trailer," West said, according to Politico. "When tolerance becomes a one way street it leads to cultural suicide. I shall not be tolerant to the intolerant."

West's fiery rhetoric helped him win a seat in Congress during the tea party wave in 2010. But, due to redistricting, West changed districts for the coming election to have a better shot at remaining in Congress in 2012.

West became infamous earlier in 2012 when he posited that more than 80 U.S. House of Representative Democrats "are members of the Communist Party." Despite no evidence to back up his claim, West stuck by his statement.

The Congressman is currently in a tight race with Patrick Murphy for the 18th Congressional District seat. Polling at the end of August had the race deadlocked. West has a large advantage in money raised.

Developer Donald Trump, a tea party favorite, is planning to hold a fundraiser for West on October 1. The event has a minimum donation of $500.

Murphy's campaign recently received a boost when the Democratic super PAC House Majority PAC announced it will spend $1 million in ads against West.
