Fmr. GOP Chairman's Trial Delayed To 2013

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Florida Republicans have been spared a potentially scandalous trial during an election year as the trial of the GOP's former state chairman has been delayed to 2013.

The delay in the trial of Jim Greer came as his defense attorneys try to work out a deal with GOP attorneys over party emails. Many of the most prominent Florida Republicans are named as witnesses for Greer's trial over charges he funneled GOP money to his private company.

Greer's attorney said the emails are crucial to his client's defense but party officials are asking more than $100,000 to produce them. A GOP attorney said that price is fair since workers will have to go through 100 different computers.

A hearing on the cost is set for November. Greer has pleaded not guilty.
