Five Year-Old Boy Takes A Deadly Dive

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – A five year-old boy in central Florida has died after he fell off a diving board.

Ian Freeman died Friday night at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children after spending over a week in critical condition, according to a family statement released Saturday.

Freeman slipped off of a 10-foot diving board during practice, at the Lake Brantley High School swim facilities in Altamonte Springs on September 12. He then hit the deck of the pool, which resulted in a severe head injury.

His mother was at the pool at the time.

The family statement states that Freeman's organs will be donated.

"We are extremely humbled by the outpouring of support, and in Ian's honor, we have established a fund where our friends throughout the community can make contributions," states the Freeman family. "Through this tribulation, we have seen the importance of having the support of our community. Our family, friends, and neighbors have helped us tremendously during this time. We cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness and generosity."
